    Out of the many reasons why an employer will ask what you are looking for in your next job, is that they want to know if your values aligns with that of the company or the team you will be working with.
    Here are key reasons why employers ask this question:

    1. The hiring managers wants to understand what your motivation and ambition is towards the role you have applied for.
    An intrinsic motivation may get you a job because this is the motivation you feel from within. You enjoy and gain personal from whatever activity you engage in compare to what an extrinsic motivation will earn you.

    2. The hiring managers also wants to understand whether or not you intend on fulfilling this role in the long run.
    The onboarding period is usually an investment period for companies because of various onboarding processes. This question helps them to know what your long term objectives are relating to the role.

    3. Your character is as well a key reason why this question is been asked.
    The hiring manager wants to understand whether your personality is compatible or relates with that of the company’s culture.

    These are key reasons why employers ask this question. But you can less of these to answer if your CV is fully tailored towards what your employer is looking for.
