Reporting Lines
The animal production officer reports to the Operation manager and is under the overall supervision of the general manager.
Job Location : Stephano Godowns, Outering Road, Nairobi, Kenya
Technical Focus
Improving animal feeding systems and strategies for increased economic and environmental efficiency and higher equity in the livestock sector, focusing on integration and bio-economy, including through methods and tools, information and data, as well as innovations and technologies.
Functions
- Formulation and Quality Control: Developing and optimizing animal feed formulas that meet the specific nutritional requirements of different livestock species and production stages.
- Technical Support and customer education: providing technical support to farmers and customers regarding the appropriate use of animal feed. Educate them about the nutritional benefits and best practices for feeding different livestock species.
- Troubleshooting and problem solving: Addressing issues related to feed quality, livestock performance, and health concerns. Identifying the root causes of problems and implementing corrective actions.
- Market analysis and product development. Analyzing market trends and customer needs to develop new feed products that cater to specific segments or address emerging demands in the livestock industry.
- Collaboration and communication: Working closely with other departments, such as sales, marketing and research to align efforts and ensure smooth operations. Communicating with customers, suppliers and stakeholders to maintain positive relationships.
- Training and Capacity Building: Conducting training sessions for staff and customers to enhance their understanding of animal nutrition, feed management, and best practices in livestock production.
- Develop and promote solutions to improve animal feeding, especially in resource poor environments, to improve production sustainability and efficiency, as well as resilience of production systems and livelihoods of livestock producers;
- Develop animal nutrition and feed-based solutions to enhance livestock productivity, while decreasing its environmental impact;
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Experience/Education
- Bachelor/Diploma degree in Animal Science or related field strongly desired.
- Advanced university degree/diploma in veterinary medicine, veterinary science, animal science, animal production or related field
- Previous production experience is highly desired.
- Experience in Animal Feed Formulation
- Basic command of english/Swahili
Competencies & Other Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication along with strong organization and time management skills.
- High internal drive, a natural ability for relationship building and leadership in a team environment.
- Ability to drive/Motorcycle to make multiple daily sales calls to customers and prospects operations.
- Ability to lift and carry 20kgs
Percentage of Travel:
Daily travel in the assigned geography.
